Since 2016 he leads the international cooperation at GTK. Philipp has over 30 years of experience in conducting and managing international geoscientific projects on four continents. Recently, he has been participating in large mineral potential assessment and responsible mining sector development projects. In 2024 he is seconded to Tanzania to cooperate with the Geological Survey of Tanzania. He is a skilled negotiator and specialized in geoscience communication. Ms. Judith Karangi

Judith Karangi: A Leading Force in digital trade promotion, mining traceability innovation with partners, Resource Mobilization, Trade, and Investment within the mineral value chain and beyond.  

Judith Karangi is the Founding Director and CEO of Nate Vision in Tanzania, a company dedicated to fostering sustainable socio-economic growth across Africa through administrative consulting services and a proud Programs Director and partner of Global Policy House (GPH). Recognized for its pioneering work, Nate Vision was recently shortlisted by ICC UK as one of the top companies in digital trade promotion, a testament to its innovative approach in the sector.  With a diverse and influential background, Judith has held numerous leadership roles, including former CEO of the Tanzania Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture (TCCIA), and currently serves as Chairperson for the East Africa Association of Women in Mining in Africa (EA-AWIMA). Additionally, she is part of an ongoing team of experts with the African Union-Commission of Economic Development, Tourism, Trade, Industry, mining (ETTIM), instrumental in reviewing the Mining Model Law there by contributing significantly to the formalization of Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining across the continent. In 2024, she achieved a key milestone by securing an Individual Policy-Making Consultancy with the African Union Commission under the African Minerals Development Centre.

Judith has been at the forefront of innovation, working with reputable development partners to create a cross-border and in-country mineral traceability systems currently in promotion to be adopted by various authorities within the continent. This system aims to enhance transparency in the extractive sector, ensuring accountability from extraction to market.

Kimmo Tiilikainen has worked towards these goals internationally. He was one of the EU’s Ministerial Negotiators of the Paris Agreement and signed it on behalf of Finland in 2016. He was one of the facilitators in UNFCCC COP 24 when Paris Rule Book was finalized in Katowice 2018. Ms. Asha-Sabrina Ayub

Asha-Sabrina (known as Sabrina) is a qualified lawyer in Mainland Tanzania (Advocate), Zanzibar (Advocate) and England and Wales (Solicitor) and is an accredited Arbitrator, Mediator and Negotiator in Tanzania. Sabrina is well-known as a leading mining and natural resources lawyer in Tanzania, and has acted as a lawyer in private practice for all sizes of mines in a vast spectrum of mineral resources (from gold to rare earth minerals to coal). As well as advising on multi-million dollar and smaller mining projects, joint ventures and M&As, Sabrina assists international and local investors on local content laws for natural resources, mineral processing/beneficiation and other value-addition, mineral dealing and acting for mineral-heavy industry such as cement and for mining support services such as drilling and blasting companies.

Hyunkuk JE is the Director of the Strategic Planning Headquarters at LOK Mining Company. He holds a Ph.D. in Mining Engineering from Seoul National University in South Korea. As a specialist in geochemical exploration, Hyunkuk has collected and analyzed more than 5,000 soil samples from Korea's Okcheon geological belt. While with BHP in 1992, I managed regional exploration for nickel sulphide deposits in Kagera Region, Tanzania, generated Cu-Au opportunities in Malawi and assessed potential for Broken-Hill type Pb-Zn-Ag deposits in Madagascar. While with Ashanti Goldfields in 1999, I outlined ~400,000 Oz Au from Kitongo Project, before switching to project generation where my focus was to assess mineral resource endowment in belts traditionally been believed un-prospective for significant gold deposit (Central-Eastern Tanzania). Under the assistance of Prof. Mruma and supervision of Prof. David Groves, these projects were later to be transformed into a PhD study that demonstrated upside exploration and discovery potentials pertaining to relatively thin greenstone belts in under-explored and un-explored greenstone belts in the southeasterly LVR and across the Tanzanian Craton into the East African Orogen (EAO). This work led to the discovery of the Handeni Gold District, where two economic Au intercepts have been discovered from Mkurumu/Negero, and ~1 MOz Au in resource at Magambazi. Small-scale orogenic gold prospects including Mazoka and Kitunda Prospects, have been discovered in CTR.

While with AGA in the DRC, I 1) established an exploration team that provided the geological understanding upon which subsequent exploration programs were carried out in the Kilo Concession, eastern DRC; 2) assessed exploration opportunities from various mineral provinces in continental Africa and Madagascar, including Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda/Burundi, DRC, Gabon Cameroon, Mauritania, CAR, Southern Sudan, Mozambique, Zambia, and Namibia); 3) continuously mentored young geologists, some currently holding exploration management positions; 4) formed part of senior peer review team for AGA’s greenfields exploration projects; and as way of giving back to the country, I have published papers on Au, Pb-Zn-Ag mineralisation and co-authored papers on magmatic sulphide-nickel sulphide deposits of NW Tanzania. I have reviewed manuscripts submitted for publication from international and national researchers. Since founding Mazoka Resources, I have been part of the team which: 1) have reviewed and ranked mineral resources pertaining to more than 10 projects on behalf of three different junior exploration companies in Tanzania; 2)  are conducting local and international workshops short-courses for government stakeholders directly and/or indirectly involved in the management of of the mineral supply chain for development and future generations of Tanzania

Prof. Evelyne Isaack Mbede is a retired Associate Professor of Earth Sciences currently working at the School of Mines and Geosciences, University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM). Dr. Mimi Stith

Doctor Mimi Stith is the President of the Pula Group (Pula), a company that invests in African countries with proven commitments to the democratic process.  Pula's current priorities are battery minerals and other strategic minerals for the clean energy transition.

The company is guided by the motto “doing well while doing good” and, under Mimi's leadership, Pula proposes a model of sustainable development that seeks to make Africa a hub for mining and processing minerals. Dr. Stith is also the Chairperson of the Pula New Communities Foundation.

Pula's model for sustainable mineral exploration relies on business practices that cut no corners on the social and environmental aspects of natural resource management. Mimi designed the communication strategy for the African Presidential Center (APC) in the US, Europe, and Africa. While at APC, Mimi worked with the highest levels of government throughout the continent and served as the interim attaché to President Karl Offmann, former President of Mauritius.

In the recent past she worked for Government Institutions, Private sector and International /intergovernmental Organizations in including STAMICO, and FAIRTRADE with roles and responsibilities varying from conducting research, developing and conducting training programmes in mining related fields. She has also held senior management and coordination positions such as: Officer In-charge of SEAMIC currently known as AMGC and Technical Officer of Chamber of Mines.

More recently she has been involved in the promotion of Responsible mining in the Artisanal and Small-Scale Subsector. Other Credentials includes: Member of VETA- Mining Technical Advisory Committee for three terms (2015-2022). Recently appointed as a member of TEITI MSG representing CSOs and a Board Member of HakiRasilimali.

Theonestina is passionate about using her knowledge, skills and experience in promoting Responsible Mineral Extraction especially in the Artisanal and Smallscale Mining sub-sector and Women participation in the Extractive sector.

The most memorable achievements are being:

(i)                A Pioneer Female Mineral Processing Engineer in Tanzania.

(ii)              Head of a Mineral production unit and supervising a crew of about 60 workers (all men)

(iii)            Officer in Charge of an intergovernmental organization. 

(iv)            Coordinator of Fairtrade Africa Pilot projects in Tanzania.

(v)              Participating in establishing and operationalizing the 1^st NGO which is           specifically dealing with Artisanal and Small-Scale Mining Development in Tanzania.

Eng. Rose Mayembe

Eng. Rose Mayembe is a climate change and sustainable development consultant. She is a Registered Professional Engineer, a Certified Environmental Assessor, and an Auditor with more than 10 years of professional experience in environmental management and engineering within the mining industry and other sectors. She has hands-on experience in both international and national investment projects, spanning mine site development, operations, statutory mine closure, post-closure and rehabilitation, climate change risk analyses, GHG accounting, energy efficiency and transition, and ESG reporting.

Rose has engaged in or led various environmental and social projects, providing her with expertise in both local and international environmental and social management requirements, such as the EP4, IFC PS, ISO, WB ESSs, and ICAO guidelines, along with best practices in climate change and natural resource governance.

In her role as Senior Environmental Consultant at RSK, Rose participates in sustainability initiatives that integrate ESG principles into major mining projects, including conducting and authoring large-scale, bankable ESIAs that meet national, international and lender-specific requirements. Rose also promotes responsible mining practices through her work with Tanzania Women in Mining and Minerals Industry (TiMMWi) and serves as the climate change and energy transition advisor for the Tanzania Women in Energy (TaWoE).

Passionate about climate change and sustainable development, Rose actively participates in advocacy and research. She has published articles on topics such as integrating climate change considerations into project-specific ESIAs, decarbonization in the mining sector with insights from sustainable finance institutions like the IFC, and integrating human rights into energy transition, drawing from EU Directives such as the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence.
